I get the following message when I start up my computer:
"The currently installed driver for the Adaptec AAA or ARO series Raid controller is not compatible with this version of Microsoft windows and will be disabled during the upgrade.
If you are starting your computer from a disk attached to your Adaptec AAA or ARO series RAID controller, you will not be able to upgrade without a driver that is compatible with this version of windows.
For more information, visit the manufacturer's web site.
For a list of devices supported by this version of Microsoft windows, wee the Microsoft windows XP Compatibility List at http://www/micorsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=whistler&ar=help&sba=compatible."
This message may refer to driver info that was included in some hidden info in the backup disk working files that I transferred from my old computer.
How do I eliminate this driver? How do I find it?
Since it has been disabled I assume that it is unnecessary.
Thanks
Bill

You are going to have to find what's executing the upgrade msg.
Get yourself a startup manager One that will identify all processes startting up on your system. HJT won't do this. When you find a suspicious entry, search google to identify and stop it or remove it from the registry.

In device manager you will find your Adaptec RAID controller is disabled. You should download the newest drivers from the Adaptec website and try them out.

Unless your running a server, I don't think you need a RAID controller see
http://www.ntcompatible.com/story4135.html.
If it's a complete program you might be able to remove it from the control panel.
