Hi all - I noticed there is a trend of posts here regarding removing spyware and finding that ActiveX applets wont install no matter what the security settings are set to. The result is clicking on ActiveX bar and getting only "Information Bar Help" - which is totally useless. After beating my head on a desktop with 3 unrelated machines that had this problem I finally stumbled on the solution. Step 4 at this website worked for all the systems. I just thought I should post this in case anyone else was still having the problems.

I really don't know what is wrong with everyone. They all cry because no one ever posts back that an answer worked or that someone found an answer to a particular problem.
Then when someone does post back they have their noses stuck up in the air as if they are too damn good to acknowledge the fact.
Me , Myself, and I (the 3 of us) surely am glad that you did this.
Thank You!

As much as I agree that the article is a good article, I am not familiar with folks complaining about installing ActiveX problems here. Nor do I see where that article says anything about the Information bar.

It is a good article though.

Hello,
Let me contribute a comment. KB822798 does not include the symptom of an information bar message of "Your security settings do not allow Web sites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer. This page may not display correctly". However, I also (based on this posting) successfully cured that symptom by following Method 4 listed in KB22798.
I have put in several hours trying all kinds of things to cure this ill. Thanks for posting!!!!
The problem is that ActiveX is somehow not working even though it is properly enabled in Internet Explorer. This in turn prevents installation of some software. This issue prevents Windows Update from running!!!
The details on method 4: one goes to a command prompt and unregisters 6-8 DLLs having to do with Cryptographic Services, reboots, then registers these same DLLs after the reboot. (I skipped the reboot step and it seemed to work OK.)
Here are the unregister commands:
regsvr32 /u softpub.dll
regsvr32 /u wintrust.dll
regsvr32 /u initpki.dll
regsvr32 /u dssenh.dll
regsvr32 /u rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 /u gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 /u sccbase.dll
regsvr32 /u slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 /u mssip32.dll
regsvr32 /u cryptdlg.dllHere are the register commands:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 mssip32.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
Thanks a ton, Tayra!!!!!!FrankO
