I just reinstalled Windows XP and activated it. Now, I accidently done something and I decided to format the drive and I am going to reinstall Windows again on this same machine.
Now, how much times will microsoft allow me to Activate Windows on the Same Computer. I activated using my product key several times long ago. Will my product key exceed on the same machine I am trying to Reinstall Windows on? How much times can I reactivate Windows on the same machine?
If it does really exceed, is there a way to call up Microsoft to ask them to renew my product key?

Yes you can call them if you need and explain your situation. The number to call will depend on your country of residence.

If there is an issue with activation you will get a message and you will still ahve time to deal with it then. Don't worry about it right now.
In the future learn safe computing habits and learn how to cleanup things when you mess up. Formatting and installing isn't teaching you anything.

Thanks for your reply, but surely, I should have the right to reinstall my Windows XP how much times I want which I bought for 120 dollars a few years ago. I should be able to activate Windows any time I want if I own the copy and installing it only on one computer.

Is it possible to call up Microsoft to renew my activation serial number IF the serial number doesn't work?

"Thanks for your reply, but surely, I should have the right to reinstall my Windows XP how much times I want which I bought for 120 dollars a few years ago. Nobody said anything about limiting the amount of times you can reinstall a valid version.
The proper term is "License Key" not activation Serial number. Why would your license key fail? You said you just reinstalled and successfully activated recently.
You didn't provide any system information. Is this an OEM system? If not, activation is not necessary.

As explained previously, If you have an activation issue then yes call Msoft, explain your situation and they will provide an activation code for manual input. By the way, you do not own the software, only a licence to use it. You will not need to purchase a new licence.

[/QUOTE]You'd think so, wouldn't you? However, the reality is that you don't "own" your copy of Windows, you have only paid for a license to use it.
While I understand Microsoft's desire to inhibit the piracy of their software, I do consider the system of product activation to be inconvenient to the end-users. Product activation should be a painless experience, with no limitations on frequency of re-installation of the software/OS. Product activation becomes even more inconvenient if you've upgraded any hardware in your machine.
Have you already formatted? If not, follow the instructions on this page to save and restore your current activation files. This method requires that none of the hardware in your machine has been changed.
If you've already formatted or your hardware has changed, you may be required to contact Microsoft in order to activate. In the vast majority of cases, this is a painless process, depending on how much of your hardware has been changed.
