Activate system restore from floppy

Specs: Windows XP
I have recently obtained a virus, which stops me from logging on to my computer. I wish to run system restore from a floppy disk that executes when the computer boots but lack the knowledge. Any help would be much appreciated.

atomic47, can you get into safe mode? If you can, run your AV from there and it should be able to clean your machine.

There's a lot of confusion & misinformation about System Restore. It only monitors certain system files...it doesn't make backups of the entire system. There's no guarantee that doing a restore will remove a virus. If you can't boot into safe mode, try booting off UBCD & running one of the included anti-virus programs.

Jam is correct, of course. A system restore will not remove a virus, but restoring the old registry can sometimes keep it from doing anything. I think it's probably worth a try.
