Hello everyone, I wonder if someone could assit me with the problem I have with my laptop. The laptop i have is an Acer TravelMate 4000WLMI. The problem I have is that my laptop will not allow the XP cd load up to format it or any other bootable operating system cd, even though I change the setting to Boot from CD in the BIOS.
All the laptop does is try to load windows and then goes to the blue screen of death!Does anyone know what I should do?

Just a thought..Have you tried just putting the CD in with Windows running and letting it Auto-play
You might then have Options\Instructions
Maybe you don't need to Boot from it?
Lesley

when booting up with the XP CD, be sure to watch and hit any key to get it to boot from CD....it goes by pretty fast. Only hit the key once and then let windows get installed....don't hit any keys in the meanwhile.
Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

I ran a recovery for a customer on an Acer Travelmate yesterday. You should have a restore cd and a set labeled recovery numbered 1-x. You must put the restore in first (it states the disk is bootable on the label), then insert disks 1- whatever when prompted. I had to dig through the stack of disks he left in order to find the separate one for restore. I had the same boot to cd and fail to xp boot. Following this the system came up correctly. All the other brands I service have a self-boot recovery disk or an OEM XP one like Dell provides with their older systems. Acer is the first one I have restored that uses a boot that is not the recovery.
Good luck
Richard
