Acer Laptop won't start after BSOD

Specs: xp pro sp2
I was using an Acer laptop and got a BSOD for no reason and i tried restarting as usual but it wont restart at all. so i pressed and hold down on the power button to shut it down... still no response after about 20 secs. so in the end i had to unlug the power supply to turn if off. when i restart the laptop windows xp pro then goes in scanning for errors as usual.. and halfway thru the scanning process maybe around 50% completed i got another BSOD and again wont let me restart so i unplugged the power cable.

Now when i turn on the laptop all i get is a complete blank screen, HDD drive no activity cause led isnt blinking... it wont even start at the BIOS. i tried to start in safe mode and all i see is just a blank screen... i even tried it with windows xp setup cd & original Acer recovery cd but everything i try wont start the damn thing......

Shall i start organising a funeral for it instead?

You can start with either some physical tests or software tests. Check AC power maybe, run memtest or ultimate boot cd tests.

I have an Apsire 1680 series - about 4-5yrs old... Occasionally it will not power up, unless I press and hold on on/off button for a second or two/three - rather than simply press it quickly...

As you are already doing much the same... I'm inclined to feel there is sumat amiss inside the system...?

Are you still trying to power up via a mains conection; or just battery?

Can you get as far as the setup message to acess bios settings; or is there absolutely no sign/sound of life at all?
