acer Aspire notebook won't boot.

Aspire 5003wlmi / Zl5

Specs: Windows XP
it was crashing a lot. i got on a new isp and the guy
said i could get better/faster surfing if my computer
didn't have a lot of stuff slowing it down. so i went to a
cmnd prompt that he told me about that would take off
a lot of programs from my startup menu. It worked but
had problems with the mouse. I think I might have
removed it. I tried to restore computer to defaults it
almost booted but mouse wouldn't work and seemed
froze as soon as the desktop showed up. Btw...i don't
know hardly anything about computers. I am not even
sure how I finally got it to boot past just the green light
showing that it was on. just have a black screen. i
push this and that even clicked/moved these two slide
buttons on the bottom of the laptop. yes as you can
see I am just a computer addict. Not knowledgable
even how to get it to boot in safe mode. I
"accidentally" did it and don't know how. please
please help me! :) i don't know what I have as
operating system. thought it is vista but heck not sure.
could be windows XP ???? :(
Laura

Hi Laura,
There should be a sticker on the bottom of your PC saying which operating system it has.

Have you tried tapping the F8 key when booting up? That should help you get into safe mode.
If it works, click on safe mode.
Once in safe mode (it may take awhile 3 minutes to maybe even 1/2 hr to reach the welcome screen depending on how damaged the operating sytem is....just let it run)
try doing a system restore back to before your problem.
Here is how to do a system restore:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...

See if that gets your laptop back up and running again. Let us know ok?
