I have an Acer notebook 4520g and I would like to install XP. My question is if it is possible. I know there is problem with Sata hard drives but I think that can be overcome by changing the BIOS settings. I downloaded all the XP drivers but can't help wondering if everything will work as it should.
Are you downgrading Vista to XP? If this is so there is no guarantee that it will work flawlessly since the OEM system builders is prohibited (under license agreement with M$) from supplying drivers designed specifically for use with Windows XP. You will have to scout the Internet to find comparative drivers elsewhere.
Yes it came preinstalled with Vista and yes downgrading Vista to XP.
I did find drivers in various places http://www.driveway.com/ and also on the Acer (thailand) website although not sure if specifically for XP. The Acer website says "XP Drivers" so one should imagine that they would be ok..
Thanks ctec but I already have the drivers for xp and I already did it. I found that the bios allowed me to change settings so that XP installation would run. So I formatted the hard drive, installed XP and the acer drivers and now all is working ok - except for one thing....screen resolution. 1280 x 760 doesn't quite do it for the laptop. Icons too small as is almost everything else. Going to have to play with it for a while to get it right....
