Account Lost on Doman to Workgroup switch

Specs: Windows XP
I've been using this computer for some time, it was set up to use a Domain though it was still possible to log into the account off the server. I no longer have the domain server and just wanted to transition to a workgroup but after doing so windows doesn't recognize the old account. Is there a way to get it back?

Update: Using system restore I was able to reset the Domain Setting and recover the account.

I would still like to drop the domain setting and only have a workgroup. How would I do this with out loosing the account?

What account are you talking about?

My Account. It's a user account with administrative access (not the default administrator account).

The account was originally created threw the domain server but that server no longer exists. I original thought I could just change the settings in the system properties - computer name tab but when I did that my account ceased to be recognized by windows. (Had me a bit worried before I thought to use system restore to undo that.) I want to make that change and still be able to access this account afterwords.

Domain Accounts and Local Accounts are Different. If you remove the computer from the Domain and put it in a Workgroup, then you will NOT be able to use the Domain Account to login and authenticate to Windows.
