Accidently deleted an unknown system file

Specs: Windows XP

Sometimes back, I have accidently deleted an unknown system file from my system. Although, the computer is working but had slowed down a lot. I don't even remember the date it happened and afraid to run system restore. I don't know how to detect which system file was deleted and restore that file. Everthing else is working fine but very slow.

System Restore only restores system files... it does not affect any saved work. If you have installed a new programme recently it may remove that otherwise System Restore can be used quite safely (that's what it's there for).

Your system may also require a dfrag or a clearing out od uneccessary files (see "Disk Cleanup" in your Help file),

START
RUN
type CMD press enter

type SFC /SCANNOW press enter

......this will run the System File Checker and will ask for the XP CD
