Hi, I was cleaning out my wallpaper files. I moved them from winnt to a temp folder so I could thumbnail them and see what I wanted to keep. When I was moving some back to winnt I highlighted them and left clicked and moved them and accidently let up on the mouse button over a hidden folder in winnt ( I have show hidden files on ).Now when I try to move them out of there I get a window that says Cannot move such and such, access denied.Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not in use. They are just bitmap files but I cant seem to move them out.Any suggestions? Thanx everyone!

copy(?), perhaps. are you trying to cut or copy?

other options: safe mode, MSDOS promps w/o windows loaded, "slaving" the HDD into another PC

Yeah that error message pisses me off with windows...but thats beside the point, the files are probably still in use honestly they are working somewhere in the processes, or the old folder still has them or this hidden folder is using them....

Two suggestions

1. Try and move just one and see if that file is "in use" then another, etc...(try like 3)

2.You will need to kill all unecessary process...best way...Reboot your machine!...then go back into that folder and pull them onto the desktop or create a new folder on the desktop and try and put them in there.

Hope this helps

Follow up...

If you can put them in the New Folder or on the desktop...then try and move them to the destination you want them.

The reason why i would try to just move one file at a time...is to see if u get the message with all of them or if just one file is holding the entire group from being copied.

There is a wonderful little program called moveonboot. It adds functions to your right click menu to move or delete on next startup.

I use it whenever XP doesn't want me to delete a file because it's in use.

This is the download link:

Thanx for the replies.Jaschumann I Wanted to just move them,I cant open them and I cant copy them.I can create a short cut and move it to the desktop but it still will not open.I tried safe mode but same problem howerver that was a good idea.I tried system restore but no luck.Roddy57 I tried moving just one at a time but no luck.I cant even delete them. They are locked in place for some reason.Davy H I will consider that software,,Thanx!I guess they are not hurting anything by being in that hidden folder but it bums me that I can't move them....arg!Thanx Everyone!

OK heres the accidental fix I discovered.I downloaded moveonboot but it wasnt able to delete the files on reboot.Although I couldnt even delete the bitmap files or move them I was able to delete the whole hidden folder, once I did I opened the recycle bin and dragged the hidden folder onto my desktop.I then opened it and was able to drag the bitmaps onto my desktop also then I dragged the hidden folder back onto windows explorer and into the winnt folder.I then dragged the bitmaps back into the proper spot in winnt folder.Whew!I rebooted and everything seems to be allright.I wonder if anyone will ever figure these things out completely?Take care and Thanx again!
