Comment:

I opened up the "My Computer" icon from the start menu and the items have been rearranged and somehow how there is a link to "Shared Documents" and "My Documents." Neither of these can be deleted, but they weren't at this location before. How can I set this back to default, or what may have caused it? Thank you.

Not sure how My Computer is on the start menu, but the two links you mention are there by default.

The View listing at the top in My Computer has options for wht shows there.

I guess I didn't explain myself very well. It's the shortcut, as is the "My Computer" icon on the desktop. That's the area I'm referring to, where it shows the Disc Drives, Floppy Drive, etc. I checked the view listing but can't find anything about removing those two folders. They were never there by default before. Thank you for responding.

I don't know why they weren't there before. They default on my system. Why do you want to remove them?

They have been always on my system. Don't know why they weren't always on yours.

Edit: OtheHill is quicker on the draw.

I use the classic windows start menu so that is why I didn't understand how My Computer could be on the start button as it is on yours.

That said, you MAY be able to edit the way My Computer shows.

Right click the start button and select properties> customize. Look for My Computer and experiment with the choices. I still don't know what the issue is though.

Thanks for all the assistance. I have found the solution. Here it is for anyone else who may be looking for it:

Follow this path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\DelegateFolders

Remove this entry no the left hand side:
{59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}

This will remove them.

Thanks again for all of your advice! :-)

Putting a dot between the { and the 5 will do the same thing without removing the key.

Software gives me a headache.
