Good day to you all.

I think this is an XP question. My old PC (as described here) gave up recently - it simply won't start and none of the usual things seem to work. I assumed it was an HDD failure and I removed it, placed it in an external enclosure and attached that to my new computer, running windows 7. The HDD seems to be fine so the problem must be somewhere else in the old machine.

I would like to be able to retrieve certain items, mostly documents and a few photos, from the old HDD but I can't gain access to some, I think because they were on an account that was password protected. They're mine and I know the password but I don't know how get at them - I am just informed that access is denied. Windows 7 I do not get along with and I am finding unhelpful with its messages.

Could anyone recommend an easy way of doing this?

Many thanks

...and I second OtheHill's comments, with the added authority of being able to say it worked a treat!

Many thanks again.
