I'm needing to re-establish file ownership of a rather large directory (30GB), and to do so I need access to my firewire drive in safe mode. Is this possible? Thank you

Not that I know of. The followings explains the design of XP Safe Mode:
In safe mode, Windows XP/2000/2003 starts a minimal set of drivers that the operating system needs to function. Support for devices such as audio devices, most USB devices, and IEEE 1394 devices is disabled to reduce the variables that you need to account for when diagnosing the cause of startup problems, Stop messages, or system instability
All right, what about using the administration account in a normal boot-up. When I do this I do not get the security tab within the properties menu to take ownership. Is there still a way of taking ownership in the admin account within a normal boot-up?

If your XP is really XP Pro, this procedure includes all the steps you need to take. If your XP is home, you can only do it in Safe Mode.
