Good Morning.
I currently have a D-Link DI-624 wireless router for my home network. Everything appears to be working correctly, the network is secure with a network name and a network password to get on the network. My problem is, when I try to us the IP address for the router, from the master hard wired computer, I get a windows password screen asking for a username and a password. It reads" Server 192.168.0.1 at DI-624 requires a username and a password. Warning: Server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner(basic authentication without secure connection).
This has never happened before, and althought the network access has a password to become a member of the network I never changed to access password on the D-Link access screen once your in the router, why is Windows asking for a password I never set?
Any ideas???
Thank you.
Chuck

I don't think it's windows asking for the password, it's the router itself.

If I'm correct, you're accessing the management interface for the router itself by opening a web browser and typing the IP address of the router in the URL field. Correct?

If yes, then this is expected. If you've never set a password on the management interface simply type admin for the username and leave the password blank and hit enter and you will be into the management interface.

This is standard on all D-Link's I've ever worked on, and LinkSys and every other brand SOHO Router (that I've personally worked on that is, I can't say about the ones I haven't obviously).

The username is probably admin and the password blank, i.e. press Enter for the password.

I have the same router.
Curt R's info is correct.
When you type that 192.168.0.1 in your browser, you are not accessing the internet - you are accessing the configuration program inside the router itself, using the default address (that address can be changed; the default one may be different depending on which region the router was sold in).

Some D-Link routers use admin and admin.

Make sure the network cable end connectors are fully into their sockets on both ends, on the router and on the computer you are trying to access the router from.

If neither admin blank, or admin admin, work, someone has set a non-default user name and/or password, or if you didn't buy the router in the US or Canada, the default user name and password may be different - the defaults are mentioned in the specific manual for your model for the region you bought it in.
