Hi. In my home network, I am running Windows XP and Windows 98SE. The printer is attached to the 98SE machine. Whenever I try to print to this printer from XP it takes MINUTES, like it's running in slow motion. What's worse, other programs that check for printers when they start (eg Word, Photoshop) also take forever to get going. If the network is not working (i.e. when 98SE machine is turned off), the XP machine flies with these programs. What is causing this?? By the way, when I booy into WIndows ME these problems are absent. Is it some type of incompatibility occuring when an XP machine is networked to a 98SE machine??

i dont know why it's going so slow, but i do know that it's NOT because of a WinXP machine networked to a Win98SE machine. because i have XP and i print to a Win98SE computer and it runs fast.

Mark, I just posted a question on the Win9X part of this web site to find out if you could network a OfficeJet t45 all-in-one between Win98 and WinXP. Please what printer are you using? Thanks LS Sr

I had the same problem.
What I found is that if you downloaded the XP drivers from your printer manufacture, and ran the setup program and installed the drivers that way, it makes the printer slow, however, if you just unzip the files, and then find the server sharing the printer on the network, right click on the printer, and select CONNECT, it will give you a popup saying that the drivers are the wrong version, then pop up an add hardware screen, select HAVE DISK, then tell it where you unzipped the drivers to, and let it do its thing, it worked very nice here.
