I have an old computer and the harddrive is going out on it. My windows got corrupt and it is saying I need to reinstall. I don't want to format or reinstall because I am going to get a new HDD. So I plugged it up to my other computer as a slave drive and tried backing up my files from the Documents and Settings folder, but its not letting me copy anything because access is denied. Is there anyway to remove these restrictions or is it a lost cause?

Try taking ownership of folders/files:
