I am trying to view how much space system restore is currently using, so I wanted to check the _restore folder within C:\System Volume Information.. the problem is, whenever I try to open that folder I get an "Access Is Denied" error message. My user account has admin privileges, and I've even logged in as Administrator, and it is still denied.. There is an MS-KB article about this and they say to right click the folder > properties > security tab, and add the user to the access list.. problem is, I dont have a security tab.. I have a Sharing tab that has "Sharing & Security" settings, but I have disabled all sharing on my system.

Is there any way to get access to this folder without enabling sharing? And if I have to enable sharing, when I turn it off again will I get access denied or will it fix it permanently?

If you just need a summary of the contents, right-click the folder and select "Properties"

Thanks Wesley, the cacls program worked.

(p.s. Rambler, I tried the properties.. without permission it cant give any useful information.. it said the folder contained 0 files at 0 bytes.. when it really contained over 1.4 gigs of data... although now that i have permission to access the folder it shows the information)

Thanks for the feedback Robert - I was sitting in front of W2000 at the time, so I just guessed - can't win 'em all!
