Have had to format hard drive but after reinstalling everything when I try to log back on line I get 'access denied' on every web page I try to access. My user name & password seem Ok as I connect OK & get the 2 telephones icon in system tray but then nothing. I have disabled Zonealarm & AVG anti virus but still no joy.

This is a typical security issue within SP2 after reformating reinstallation. You need to reset the security on the various icons to default levels....
start > control panel > internet options > security tab and highlight each icon and select default settings and click apply and then ok out.
You will also have to reset your ISP connection options either manually or with a installation disc as you seem to be using a dial-up connection.
