Access Denied - File in Use

I downloaded an mpg from Morpheus, checked to see it worked then moved it to another folder. Now I can't access the mpg. I cant play it, rename it, move it or delete it. I keep getting a "Access is Denied -- Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use". Now when I try to play it in Media Player it wont because it says it is in use, although it isn't in use. I am also unable to change the attributes (which is NOT set to anything anyway).

I am using WinXP Pro. I installed using the NTFS (or whatever it is called) instead of FAT32. Is there anyone who knows what the hell is going on? Thank you so much to anyonewho can help with this problem.

Paul

Hell, I dont want to delete the file, I spent toooooo long getting it :)

After sorting through hours of posts in here I found the problem. Still can not tell if it is a WinXP/Morpheus problem BUT the solution is to move the folder with the files in it to the C: root. Somehow it unlocks the movies and I was able to play them again. Weird, very very weird but it works.

:)

Read somewhere else that this is a known Morpheus problem.

Another good reason for sticking to FAT32 I say. Simply boot from a DOS floppy and do whatever YOU like with YOUR files !

Here's the fix for XP Pro-
Open a command prompt (Start - Run - cmd)
c:\>cd \program files\morpheus
c:\Program Files\Morpheus\>cacls *.* /e /t /g everyone:f
This will set the appropriate permissions on all of the files in your Morpheus folder.
Works great.

I have also had this problem (and also used Morpheus). I used the FTP trick to delete one "file" but i still have a "folder" that i want to get rid of and the ftp thing won't work. I tried to copy and past the command lines in, but they don't work either. Any suggestions? Can i do something from the old DOS interface?? I don't care about saving these corrupt folders, i just want to delete them. Also did a SCANDISK at startup but it found nothing. Oh yea, i am using WIN XP Pro with NTFS formating. Any help would be greatly, greatly appriciated.

Please feel free to email me.

Thanks,
Jonas

Well I tryed all the above stuff and none of it worked. Couldnt move the file, couldnt do the thing at the command prompt, couldnt fpt etc.

But i did stumble on a simple solution of my own. I have no idea why it worked but it did.

Click on the folder that contains your file, goto properties, select sharing, click on the "shared documents" text to open the shared documents folder, then drag the folder to the shared documents window.

For some odd reason this worked, whereas I couldnt move the files ANYWHERE else on the computer.

I am having a similar program with XP prof.
I have a 600 meg mpg file that I want to delete. I can not delete it, it says the file is already in use. I have tried a few of the suggestions above, and nothing works. I just want to get this thing off of my hard drive.

Thanks a lot Steve!!!
I was trying for the longest time to adjust the folder permissions on the Morpheus folder but had no luck.. Your command line permissions command worked like a charm..

Any idea how to adjust folder permisisons from the GUI? I dont see it under the folder properties as I did in Win2k/NT..

Got the same prob with a client's machine. Even when I transferred their drive to my host machine, I still couldn't access the files. (3,900+) Definately a worm virus of some type. It locks up access somehow. I'm in win98SE. Help!

same problem with winxp, cant delete, move, rename etc. "file is already in use..."

i found one solution to this, i had to end explorer.exe process on task manager and have command prompt open, and delete/rename/move it from there. worked from me, very annoying though since ending endind explorer.exe process is not very nice thing to do..

I have a similar problem, except its with the "My Documents" folder on a secondary hard drive. It keeps telling me "access is denied." and I have run out of ideas. Anyone know how to change the permissions or somehow access my files without being logged on to the same hard drive?
