Hi
About a week ago i started having problems with my External hard drive i use to store my files and some times for some tempary storage its about 3 months old, its formated with NTFS its 120GB USB 2.0 and when i store files on it on my new computer and then try to access them on my other computer it says "Access is denied." i have tryed doing every the page "http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=810881" , says to do, but Windows keeps canging the settings. all i have to do is make a new folder or any thing thats new even copying a file from the C:\ drive to the external, and then plug my HD in to the ohter pc and i get the error message. i install Updates when they are aviabile. my PCs have the same windows versions on them. I have also noticed that when i make switch user names on windows xp it does the same thing. i could go into the security setting and tell windows that i am the owner but i would have to change the settings every time. does anybody know if i can fix this. My other computer has exactly the same windows installed.
Thanks,
Trevor

im not too sure dude.. but..
USB 2.0 is usually Plug and play, did you have to install drivers for it??
if so, then you have to install the HARD DISK driver on the other PC aswell..
it should be detected as a removable storage disk if i am correct.if your other computer's usb driver is 1.0 and your hd is 2.0 im not so sure if it will work without a proper driver for it.. thats all i can think of.
sorry mate
regards..

blitzu, when i plug in the external hard drive it just shows up in my computer as the "H" drive on both computers. Windows find the drives automaticaly i guess. it did come with a drivers disk but it says for windows 98 and ME. it is decected as removeable storeage and when ever i turn it off i have to dubble click the "Safely Remove Hardware icon". i do have an older computer with xp pro, i tried pluging in my external hard drive and it said high speed device on usb port, so it does indeed work on usb 1.0 but it goes slow. i still have the prob with access denied on a few files.
thx
