Recently, this program will stop working for 1 or 2 seconds for no reason, and then it will resume working as usual. I wonder if this strange incident is caused by some virus, or some spyware trying to gain control on my computer??
Hello!

IMHO it could be due to one or more of the following wild guesses:
1. Your AV signature file is not up to date.
2. The AV engine is corrupted, broken or running in a haphazard mode.
3. Your free disk space is too low.
4. You have some kind of hard drive disc problem.
5. Some kind of worms or malware have seized McAfee.
6. Lastly but more importantly ... Dump McAfee - it's a huge resource hog. Get AVG (or any other of the good free ones) then deep-scan the entire HD to ensure that you are clean.i_Xp/VistaUser

I agree with XpUser regarding dumping of McAfee. It is NOT however just a de-install of McAfee, it will remove the application but NOT the information that McAfee puts in the registry (unless McAfee have brought out a program to do it)
On installation McAfee finds every program entry in the registry and adds their check sum and other details for the program (so McAfee will know if the program has been tampered with)A client of mine a few years ago installed McAfee on their system decided they did not like it then asked me to remove it. As there was no remval program available it took 2.5 days to go through every entry in the REGISTRY removing all the McAfee c**p.
Regarding AVG it is free, but how often are the definitions being updated. With the current round of Vundo viruses you should have a minimum of 2 updates PER DAY. If definitions are a week old you could get hit at any time.
Remember deep scanning your hard drive is only as good as your current updated definition version of any antivirus.

See McAfee Removal Tool . In particular, scroll down to: "Click on the following link to download the MCPR removal tool"

That's very usefull information kx5m2g, so McAfee finally woke up to provide a de-install tool. That certainly was not available 8 years ago.
However I still would not recommend McAfee too resource hungry.
