Hi all!
I've spent over a day trying to make my new nForce2 ultra 400 onboard Soundstorm work in windows - but no luck.
During startup the BIOS posttest voice
("Systemtest completed, now booting from operating system" or somesuch) plays fine. Therefore I reason it must be a windows problem.
It installs and plays fine (spectrum analysers move), winamp plays ok - just no sound! If I really turn up the volume on my reciever I can faintly hear the music playing through the static.
And no, it is not muted anywhere I have found ;o)I have tried:
Drivers on cd (?.??) and newest (nForce 4.27)
Headphones instead of reciever
All jack exits on mobo (got desperate :o)
Removed and reinstalled drivers
Reinstalled windowsand have:
Servicepack 1
DirectX9
Flashed bios from .9 to .12
Latest catalyst (for R9600XP)
The FPAUDIO1 jumpers connected corretly (standard)
Onboard audio turned to "auto" in bios
No conflicts in device managerAny ideas anyone?
System:
340w Chieftech PSU
A7N8X-E Deluxe w. 2500+ Barton (app. 60C) and 2 512 Kingston (dual)
PowerColor 9600XT
2 Seagate Barracuda IDE HDs (not raid)
Pioneer DVD drive

The motherboard installation CD has a section devoted to speaker output installation. This is separate from the audio drivers installation. Check the CD.

With your help I now have sound through the purple jack to surround speakers. It appears that the sound is as good as normal with my 2 speakers - I just have to run in 4-speaker clone mode to activate the purple jack, since there is still no sound in the normal jack. It's not optimal but it works as long as I only have 2 speakers - if any one knows what could be wrong, I'm still interested...

Hi,
Try nvidia's nvswap. i too had issues getting it to work with my 5.1 speakers.
