In order to better serve us all, I would ask if all of us could use the fourm for its origional intention and not to bad mouth all those people for trying to do whatever they are doing. This is a technical computing forum and I believe its intention is to simply help others. I think that when another person posts a message that contatins no technical knowledge pertaining to the posters situation that it does nothing but create a problem in an emotionally frustrated user. The same frustration that comes with a power surge in the middle of writing an unsaved document. In posting a message with your opinion on what another is doing all you do is enable the entire board to see that the persons question had been answered from the fourm topic page when it really hasnt been, someone just decided to give their 2cents when it is not welecome. I wish us all to get along and I feel that if you do not agree with what someone is doing or asking for help in doing that you simply abstain from saying anything, just like bambi, if you dont have anything nice to say (or helpful in this case) dont say anything at all. Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion but the intention of this board is to help others not to give opinions on what other people are doing, it doesnt help fight the fire, it adds gas. So everyone please, cant we all just get along?

Tarbosh, yours a nice thought but I don't know what is Fourm Edicate. If you meant Forum Etiquette, you could suggest to Justin to add it to Computing.net About page HERE

"Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion but the intention of this board is to help others not to give opinions on what other people are doing"

Any help offered/given, is that persons opinion. Giving an opinion is wrong? So, if someone wanted to do something, and either it be illegal, cause lose/harm to their files and/or computer. We're suppose to tell them how to do it. 1.) Be just as guilty, as they are, for telling/helping them to do it. 2.) Not feel bad, but laugh in the background as their files/ect. get lost.

"In posting a message with your opinion on what another is doing all you do is enable the entire board to see that the persons question had been answered from the fourm topic page..."

1.) What? 2.) If you mean that there has been a response to a question. Yes, that's all it does. It DOESN"T mean, that it is the right answer, and accepted answer, or even an answer. It might be a question from someone who is interested in helping. Hell, it might even be the original person correcting an error in their question. <(that's the right/proper way to do it Not start a new question)

Since this question wasn't a technical question about computers. I guess I'm safe giving my opinion, as it's not proper to give an opinion on that subject, say you. Wait, I'm sorry, it wasn't a question, it was a request. Isn't that what everyone is doing. Making a request, for help, an opinion <<{the formal judgment of an expert on a matter in which advice is sought}<< of someone else, to help with their problem.

Just an opinion, look out.

per, you know better than that.

I agree with Tarbosh... just the other day i saw a post from someone asking for help with the System Standby feature and what they got back as a response from one of the board 'experts' was:

"Why in the world do you want to use system standby?"

WTF? Who cares why they want to use it... they just DO. It's a feature of the operating system and perhaps they just plain like it??

That's the kind of stuff Tarbosh is talking about i think.

:)
