Hi,
recently, i have found out that my cable connection keeps sending packets to everywhere literally even when the computer is not downloading anything, not connecting to any messagers and not uploading anything!!

when i did a netstat -n, it shows connections from 24.i.j.k to 24.xxx.xxx.xxx
so it ended up at any instance, it has 'syn_sent' to more than 200 ip addresses!!!!!

I believed that there is something wrong.
May i know what the problem is and how i can fix this?

Million Thanks in Advance
Gary

Sounds like someone may have hijacked you. Get Hijack This, run your AV scan, AdAware, Spybot, etc. And yes, sounds like you should have a good firewall.

no i don't have any firewalls, but i tried using Xp built in ones, the weird situation is still there... i don't have much $$$ to get a brand new Norton virus scan, and i don't have any virus scan at all, do u mind if you link me to some free av scans??

Thank You
Gary

Try this. It's free, but I don't know for how long?

I realize money is an issue, but a good AV program like McAfee or Norton is one of the most valuable investments you can make. They're in the $40 range.

The trouble with Windows firewall is that it doesn't stop outgoing transmissions.
