Does anyone know of a way to get a 350 watt ATX power supply to run in silent mode from a software application or tool in Windows XP Pro.

I've started re-encoding some movies and my system has to be left on all night, it's quite noisy, 95% of this comes from the power supply fan.

Thanks for your help.

Silent mode?

It's quite noisy because your computer is really thinking about encoding those movies, thus producing a lot of heat.

Trying to stop the fan or slow it down or whatever is just going to result in you damaging something from the heat, i.e. the power supply.

WHAT?
Do you mean a program that puts less current to the fan so it runs slower and lets the P/S over heat & fry. Nope never heard of such a program.

You would need to buy a quality PSU if you want a quiter one, but it would still make a noise generating the throuput of air..

Have you thought about water cooling your PC??
