My 1st connect of the DAY 'always' connects me at 28k speed. I immediately disconnect, reconnect and it will be 48+/-k speed. The rest of the days connects will be at the higher speed. I DO have the latest drivers. (internal modem is a 'rockwell'). I also have a US Robotics external, which does the same thing.. This is no 'biggy' just can't figure out why the 'first' connect is always slower. Anyone have an explanation? (I have uninstalled the modems and reinstalled).

It probably has to do with the IP address from your ISP. That used to happen to me when I had dialup too. I figured the ISP had a system for routing new connections. Sort of an overflow, so to speak. Did you try giving the modem a cappacino first, that gets anything up and running. Good Luck.
