Hey,

I have a real brainbuster that I pray one of you can help me with. Sometimes (not everytime) when I play a cd-r that I burned on my pc in my car, I hear this god awful clicking and popping and static. And I don't mean a little pop or click here or there from a bad wav file or something, I mean overpowering the song with cracks and pops and craziness. It's so weird though, cuz the first time I put the cd in it might do that, then the second time I play the cd it might play completely fine all the way through. Then I'll go to put in a different cd-r and it will have the noise again, then put in another cd and it will be fine. There seems to be no pattern that I have noticed, except that it only seems to happen with cd-r. I have not noticed it with any regular cds yet but this has only been happening for a month or so (maybe 6-7 times during that month this happened)

When I play the cds in my computer or home stereo they seem to play fine. I know this is very confusing but any help would be greatly appreciated as I am at wits end.

My specs:
1.47 ghz AMD Athlon Windows XP Home
512 SDRam
60gig HD
MEMOREX 52X24X52 CD Writer
I use Nero V. 5.5.9.14 (I think that's the version I have)
And I use Sony CD-Rs and Sony CD-R Audios

I've noticed it on cds recorded at various different speeds so I don't think that's an issue. I've also attempted to clean my car stereo (which is a sony explode detachable face CD player) with a cleaning cd.

I would really appreciate it if any of you guys could give me your opinions. Is it my CD-Writer? Nero? My Car CD Player? Speakers?
Thanks so much for taking the time to read and respond. I really do appreciate any help you could give.

Below is what i could think of cant say it will help but worth trying

try to burn a cd at your freinds or some other place and see if the same thing happens(do burn at slow speed).if yes it just might be ur stereo
or else its your cdr drive.you could also try to play ur cds in some other device like ur music system etc.

or try this

Take two of your recorded cd's
one which u recorded at high speed and one with the slowest.
play them in your car stereo if both make the same or nearly same type of

the reason usually behind this kind of problem is that the cdr drive laser has gotten weak(in case of a faulty and old drive)

Thanks for responding guys,

I forgot to mention, that I made a couple copies of some of the cds that make the noise on occassion for a friend of mine. She said that she has not heard anything like I described on her stereo.

Also, the cd-r drive I have is brand new. And a cd or 2 that I burned on my previous drive (HP CD-Writer) did the same thing on occassion in my car.

Sorry I left this info out before, my original post was so long to begin with...

Any more ideas now??

Thanks again,
DM

If it is working fine in her stereo then its your stereo thats unable to play the recorded CDs and the likely prob is ur stereo is unable to read tracks from a cdr because no mater which cd rw drive u use the burned tracks are never as clear as on a company cd.
The sol.
If ur product is in warranty go to the center and take ur cd-r with u explain the prob.

I have been able to and continue to be able to play cdrs in my car stereo without a problem. it's only on occassion that this happens, otherwise my stereo plays fine. Do u think maybe my car stereo is just starting to go bad and since cd-r tracks are slightly harder to read than company cd tracks, they are the first to cause problems with a dying stereo? or am I reaching?

Thanks again for all the input.

i'd say definitely car stereo... and post this in "general hardware"... you don't even attempt to make it relevant to XP...

I posted it here cuz I wasn't sure if it was something to do with the actual cd-r or my car stereo.

I also noticed that it does it a lot more when the car is ice cold, if that matters.
