Hi all.

Has anyone heard of a file that can't be deleted?
My sister has recently installed ICQ, and alongside with the program it has installed a file called "Free AOL & Unlimited Internet.url". The file can't be deleted using the simple methods, and not even uninstalling the ICQ program (Which was the one to install the file) succeed to remove it.
When I right-click on the file it showes me only two options: "Go to Free Trial" and "Create Shortcut", and double-clicking on it acts like a link. The file can't be renamed either.
I ran AdAware pro and it didn't find anything.
Does anyone has an idea what can it be and how can I remove it?

Nemets.

Hey, try starting in safe mode and deleting it. Sounds like spyware to me.

Also, check file Properties and make sure that it is not 'Read Only'

Did you look at file Properties by right clicking on the file icon?

go to download.com and download a free trial version of ace utilities. this program will help you uninstall or delete files that can't be deleted. after this you might want to check your registry under
hkey_local_machine then software
hkey_current_user then software
to see if the file is there if it is right click and delete it

tonyme7, when I try to delete the file with Ace Utilities the file does not appear when I click add.
And I found a whole directory of AOL in the registery and deleted it all, but the file still won't be deleted.

I assume you went to add/ remove also. If you get rid of it, get trillian which also uses icq, aim, msn, yahoo, etc. without the pop-ups or bull.
