Comment:
I have win98se on C and started the XPpro install as an aadditional os using the advanced setup to install on second hdd D: However I chickened out because it appeared tha XP was going to overwrite my existing os even though I selected new install not upgrade, and install to a different drive. Now everytime I boot up I have to go through the process of choosing win98 from the dual boot menu. Should I go ahead with the process and trust XP to install its self on D: ?? OR How do I eliminate the dual boot processs, and return to my original 98se one os single boot environment?

You should go head with the Xp install. XP will copy its startup files and bootloader to your C: drive, but all program and system files will be installed on d:. Also your command.com and other 98 dos files on c:\ will be updated.
To eliminate the boot process run "fdisk /mbr" from a Win98 starup disk. That will overwrite the XP bootloader than just erase the files XP copied on your drives. IMPORTANT Don't erase files updated files in the root directory of the C: drive. They will have to be replaced with the originals. Examples command.com, io.sys, autoexec.bat, config.sys
