what does the bios report the drive as?

download delpart.exe and wipe the drive. Then start fresh. Sounds like a corrupted file system misreporting size.

Try formatting (fdisk) from DOS - basic boot disk - Partition Manager can cause funny problems so try without it.

You should be able to if you know the correct drive letter.
