I bought a 80 conductor round cable for my hard drives but in Intel Application accelerator, it still says it is a 40 conductor cable, therefore I cannot get past UDMA 2 mode. How can I get it to detect my cable correctly?

Thanks

Does the MoBo support 80pin Cables, you seem to have missed out any specifications or model designation......

We need to know your model, and about how old it is.

Other than that, there may be broken wires at one or the other connector on the data cable - it is very easy to break those tiny wires, especially when removing the cable.

Try another 80 wire data cable if you have one.

If you have an IDE drive of 100 or 133 the ribbon cables are 40 pin cables. Yes they have 80 wires but the extra 40 just go between the 40 data wires to eliminate interference. Unless there is something new I do not know about in the last couple of months all ide cables are 40 pin not 80 pin. Count the number of connections on the hard drive or wire ends. I've had ribbon wire and round ide wire, I can't tell the difference in computer performance other then the air flow difference in the case is improved.

Sorry for not responding. It is a Dell Dimension 4550. I guess it is the cable because it was recognized as 80 before and now only 40.

Better late than never. Take a close look at the cable for broken wires, and/or try another 80 wire cable.
