My computer will not recognize that I have a D:\ drive. I have tried to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them but when I do the plug & play finds it but then the computer says it can't find the drive. It's a Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-352F drive. It will load the Dell diagnostic disk and says the drive has no problems.

Have you checked to make sure the jumper pin is set to master on the back of the drive?

I opened the tower up and unplugged the wires then replugged them in once.

The jumper pin is totally separate from the wires. Usually you have to remove the drive from the case to see what the jumper pins are set to. On the top of the drive there should be a schematic showing how the jumper should be set.

Is the drive seen in the BIOS? How do you have it physically connected?

The drive is seen in the Bios. It is an internal drive. This all started I think after I had deleted some files. Could I have deleted something that was associated with that drive on accident and the computer can't see that it is there now?

Certainly. What files did you delete? Can you see the drive in Disk Management? Have you tried running a System Restore?

I deleted numerous programs, mainly things related to MS Office and trial version of a photo shop I believe. It does not show up in disk management. I tried system restore once to a date I knew it was running well with no change.

I got it working. I had to delete some of the registry keys and then restart the computer.
