What type of burnable DVD disc is it — DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW or DVD-RAM? For that type of media, what speed is your drive quoted as writing at? If you don't know that, give us the brand and model number of the drive so we can tell you.

Either you have a hardware problem, software misconfiguration, a very old DVD burner or you're burning to a format that your burner really isn't good at writing to.

You used Nero Vision Express 3 to burn? That tool just for making dvd, not burning dvd.

How big was your original dvd? I guess you was doing a srhinking that why it took 4 hrs.

You didn't say how MANY dvd files nor how big...makes a difference.

Generally speaking simply to back up a 90 minute MPEG2 or VOB tpye file already on HD will take about 20 minutes. But large movies that need compression could take more than an hour depending on the compression level.

Sorry, I should also add:

If you are using the new updated version of nero, for some reason it's much slower than the original.

Not withstanding, the new version has removed any audio format choices and stuck us with one; LPCM format... a good format, but not at all compressable. Now when redording an MPEG with MPEG 2 layer audio, Nero will convert it to LPCM which can ADD 1/2 a gig and of course this conversion takes time as well.

I've gone back to the older version.

I believe people, you're misunderstanding the question.
The process of burning the file to dvd takes around 20 mins, but the conversion to dvd is a lot longer depending on the compression and length of the file.
I have an identical set up maybe except product names, and 4 hours for the whole process is very fast indeed. it takes me arond 5-6 hours to do the same thing.
Also, Nerovision does burn to dvd after the conversion, but Its always best to burn to image because if the blank dvd is a duff, you have to go through the whole process again.
So to recap, nerovision does burn to dvd, the reason it takes that amount of time is the process of conversion, (some other programs could do it faster), and 4 hours for the whole process is a fast session.
