This is ridiculous!

I cannot find out how to tell if a machine has Windows XP PRO 32-bit or Windows XP PRO 64-bit?

Checked System, System info, ran Aida32, nothing says "32-bit" or "64-bit". I am having a problem on a Windows XP sp1 machine and need to verify this. And before anyone suggests it...NO I cannot upgrade the machine to sp2, it needs to stay at sp1.

Thanks.

Since you have XP SP1 it's 32-bit.

would be news to to me that dell is shipping xp 64-bit. upgrading to sp2 wouldn't make a change either. windows xp 64-bit is a different kettle of fish.

if you want windows xp 64-bit and your processor is supported, here you can download the 120-days evaluation copy:

Thanks for the help. Sorry to be deliberate about not installing sp1, but sometimes on these forums others make suggestions with offering advice for the posted problem.

If either of you are familiar with "File and Settings Transfer" wizard, please shoot me an email (mattsimon7@yahoo.com). The "Home and Office network" option is grayed out and both pcs are on the same subnet. This same process works successfully on all other machines except this machine. Other xp sp1 machines don't have an issue.

This gets asked constantly and quite frankly with this particular inquiry - the question is the answer. Now before you say, what the heck is this dude smoking, you probably should know that 99.99% of the folks that ask the question do not have the x64 verion of XP installed.

By design, on any system running the x64 version version of Windows XP, it is disclosed in System Properties, right there under the General Tab: Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.

If your PC or the system you are working on simply has Microsoft Windows XP Version 2002 - you aren't running the x64 version of Windows but the x86 (32-bit) edition. Another clue involves running winver from the start menu.
