Purchased a dual ended molex power cable that had an attached lead wire which was supposed to have a 3 pin case fan connector, but actually turned out to have only a 2 pin case fan connector and has a hood on the case fan connector as opposed to the flat piece of plastic that the other connector had.
My question is; shouldnt this be a 3 pin case fan connector and not 2 pin, you can even tell from looking at it that it looks like it should have had the 3 pins, but there are only 2, is this dangerous possibly causing the fan to overheat or something?
Thank you.

Case fans have three wires. 2 for power and one for reporting their speed. If you are using a power adapter like this, there is no use for the speed sensing wire, and so, the adapter will only have 2 wires.
