What are the three best software ways to speed up XP?
First, Turn off all the funky telly tubby stuff and switch to the Windows Classic look. When I say telly tubby I mean all the animation and stupid stuff that is just eye candy.
Keep your hard drive healthy and clean. Run defrag and scandisk. Clean up temp files, temp internet, cookies, history and make sure you check for Spyware at least once a week with current updates and stay up on Windows Updates as well.
Run MSCONFIG and get rid of all the junk that is just not needed. Do your really need 20 items loading at startup? No, you don't.
That is it for now!

One way is to turn off Indexing service. Go to Administration Tools > Services and disable "Indexing service".

On one page the author suggests turning off the PageFile and that I disagree with. While it can be done there is really no advantage to using this in the long run.
And with all tweaks, common sense should be used. Don't apply every tweak you come across to your system, that is not wise.

Ya know what sucks about TweakXp.Com is that is floats that stupid little add box in each and everytime you click a link, even with a pop-up stopper it does this. So TweakXP.Com gets a big thumbs down from me.

The best way is to turn off all services you don't need. A good site for this is Blackviper's He has all the services explained and has reg hacks to turn them off. Check it out!

Go google and find 'windows xp prefetcher', it is registry edit, check the value to 5.
don't put anything in startup.
As someone said above, change to classic view of your desktop.
update drivers.
This are the main and no much improvement for the other tweak.
