I'm gonna use winXP home.
First, can windows xp home play dvd's? I mean, is it built into windows media player? How about Win2000? Can it play DVD's?
I got a 2x read DVD-drive. Will it skip while it plays the movie (pause) while it reads? Or will the movie be smooth?

DVD playback in XP's Windows Media Player requires a supported DVD drive and a software decoder. The first time you insert a DVD movie in your drive, WMP will display an error message if you don't have a proper decoder, with a link to its DVD Troubleshooter. Follow this link and you'll find a list of compatible decoders.
