Hello,

I just bought a 200GB Western Digital Hard Drive and it only reads at 131GB. I read elsewhere that you need to have a BIOS that support 48bit LBA. I have a K7N2 Delta-L. Does anyone know if this board supports 200GB hard drives? If so, do you know how to enable 48bit LBA in the BIOS? I was unable to find it anywhere. Thanks.

Go to your companies site and see the docs. If there is an update to that board you might consider it.

I would go to the bios setup and see what bios reports it as.

HDD size limitation articles by Western Digital:
Western Digital Service and Support
When there, under "Search Knowledge Base", click "Size Limitation".
Then read some of the articles.

I believe that you need SP1 installed in order to use drives larger than 132GB with WinXP.

I agree with OtheHill. One aspect of SP1 is explained here:

Go to my website (Homepage link) and look up the section titled "Working with Large sized Hard Drives, especially 127 GB or bigger". It is explained in detail there.

There are also follow up links to more resources that you can look up. Hopefully you will have a better understanding of what you need to do after that.

The short answer:
You need WinXP SP1 or later and 48 Bit LBA capable motherboard and BIOS. 48 Bit LBA is enabled by default in WinXP SP1 or later.

The MSI FAQ list has a question on its web page here about your particular motherboard.

The question under HDD Support is:

What is the highest HDD that K7N2 Delta can support?

The answer given is:

K7N2 Delta (MS-6570) can support up to 160GB HDD.

This suggests that even after you have addressed the 137GB limit issue, you will NOT be able to use a hard drive larger than 160 GB.

XpUser,

Thank you for the wellcome back.

Yes, I have been on a driving holiday to France, Spain, Gibralter and Moroocco and back. Nice holiday (covered 4500 miles in total). Visitted lots of places and saw lots more than you would otherwise see on a standard package tour.

Nice to be back though. I think I was suffering withdrawal sysptoms at the end of it. Did not get to a computer at all.

Thanks once again and keep helping as you always do.
