You just want to see how fast KTTD will delete a post don't you. LOL!

Please post back within 24 hours or I will delete the post from my follow up list. Thanks. It would be a courtesy if you would post back and let us know if the fix worked or not.

Not quite what you meant I know.....

Remember 9/11? Who could ever forget? At that time 9x was the prime forum. More than one post appeared on there rightly giving condolences, thoughts and prayers for those poor victims and their families.

I thought I might get a similar attitude about SE Asia who's natural disaster has killed at least 60,000 people and that figure is rising.

I did post a link on 9x, this one:
163178 W95/98

Including the link to another post that I didn't realise was already there, the response has been one solitary (but well meant) "Amen to that". OK so that forum is now much less used.

This I would suggest is now the prime forum. Does anybody care or does the fact that this happened in SE Asia mean it is of little interest?

So that's my wish for CN 2005. A more caring and less self centred community.

Amen Derek !!

I know this is a computer forum, but we still need compassion and a few posts here and there about important issues can't hurt.

I wish all the posters would learn to read the freakin manuals, how to find Google and how to search for questions that have already been asked four times on every page.

Merry Christmas,

How about a voting system. Points for good, helpful answers, good questions, or maybe a "rate my" gallery! No pics of sisters then dammit!

Techrepublic.com does that. It is about the best help site on the net. [barring this of course} Those people are awesome and they do a point system. Sisters are welcome.

I agree with all of the above. Condolances to everyone affected either directly or indirectly by the Tsunami disaster (I guess in a way it will/has effected everyone). MoR has hit the nail on the head with replies. Maybe a resolved icon or similar on the posts that have a follow up saying HOW the problem was fixed would save the hassle of pouring over fifty posts about the same problem but no response upon the problem being resolved....???? May each and every one of you have a happy, peace filled and above all safe 2005.

per,

I suggest you change your avatar to read something like I have the perfect solution but first will you promise to post back? If you say you will and then did not, I will avoid you the next time you come here for help.

Follow up to Derek's post. Yes, we all are sympathetic to the tsunami that happened in the Indian Ocean. That was a terrible thing thing that happened but that is part of living on this earth. The earth is a living entity and we are all subject to it's vagary's. Lets all pray thats the last of it but we know it is not.

As a helper on 9x forum, another variant of #9 - would the helpers also pop back after posting a fix. There have been odd instances where the proposed fix was nipped in the bud by others before it caused even more problems. One guy, who shall be nameless, continually posts the same incorrect command and never looks back.

Derek, I came and read. And you know that my heart goes out to those who were taken in that disaster and the families of those left behind to sort things out. Here in the Pittsburgh area we have been dealing with our own disasters of a few sorts. We had major flooding in late September. September 17, to be exact. No life loss but most towns lost most everything. All personal possessions and jobs to say the least. I was fortunate, only 4 or 5 inches of water in my basement. But others had over 17 feet of water. And we have had to deal with major plant closings too. Besides the ones unemployed by the flood close to 1,000 people lost jobs from plant closings. My husband being one of them. I know the Pittsburgh problems don't compare to the SE disaster, but as I said, disasters come in all catagories. And that is why I haven't been around much. Back to working 2 jobs, 7 days a week again. Old boss who fired me a year ago today called me back so working 2 jobs now, and trying to find afordable health insurance and money to get perscriptions that are needed is a worry in itself.
I pop in here to PC.NET (as some of us have come to call it) and I just get sidetracked by my own problems so I end up popping out again. Sorry. I will try and make an effort to spend more time in here. Especially since I have finally installed WinXP Pro. My pc clientel is up and I have probably built over 30 pcs now. Anyway, just wanted to pop in and convey my sypathies. But just realize that we all have our own trying times here in our homelands too that we are dealing with. Hope you understand a little better now.
Terri

I'm quite certain the name has already been given to Justin by a colleague.

Terri
Thanks for the update. Yeah, I guess we all have our problems. I had another big one this year too but I won't trot it out on here. It's just that 100,000 killed outright in SE Asia (current estimate) is such a large number I can honestly say I have difficulty even comprehending it. Keep in touch.

Yes Derek I understand that the 100,000 is a little hard to comprehend. I was just at the local convience store and our toll is only at around 55,000 for today. I'm sure tomorrows paper will show the updated total. I don't look at the news much, either on the TV or on the net. I belive in "no news is good news".
And as for the "whole story" as to what's going on behind the lines in my life over here in the land of "no jobs", I'll send you a private email, ok?
Later,
Terri

Hi Derek,
As an "old" poster here (mainly of questions :)), you know my prayers are with you and your daughter's family. You and I have corresponded offline (DOS lessons!!)but for all of the "full-time" tech supporters, THANK YOU... I have always come back to "my thread" and thanked those whose answers helped solve my problems. Fortunately, none of my questions ever attracted the attention of the smart alecs so there was no need to get nasty with them :))).

Derek, the best to you and your family... Catch you offline in an email... L
