Hi there. Can anyone please help. Currently I am using windows xp 2001 pro, in the add/remove programs I am able to uninstall windows xp and my original operating system windows 98 will start working. I would like to know if it is possible to have windows 98 and windows xp installed on the same machine, like one for each different user.

Your help is appreciated

I dont think so, actually I think it would be impossible, you could use the 2 os, by installing on a seperate HD, and configure your bios to boot whatever os you prefer the other user to use, and if you wanted to use XP you could change the boot order to XP as required.
I think you should ask MS about that one, i"ll be interested to know if it is possible.
Interesting question.

There is one solution to your problem. With VMWARE you can have up to eight different Operating Systems running on the same machine as long as you have enough memory and Disk space. VMWARE will simulate Virtual PC within your OS. You can optain an evaluation copy from www.vmware.com

Euh?

First install Win98, then install XP (do not try to install XP when 98 is running!! No upgrade!).
If you would like to install the 2 osses on one disk us another dir then Windows for the XP.
At startup u get a menu with the osses, 98 and XP.

If you install, "OS Loader 2000" you can have upto 100 OS's in your system and you can choose any one os at boot time.
Download from:www.osloader.com
and its free and compatible with XP and other
windows.

You can install 2 OS's without any other software, all you need is two hard drives or a hard drive with multiple partitions.

1. Install Windows 98 to your C:, then from Windows 98, inset your XP CD and start the setup.
2. When prompted if you want to upgrade or clean install choose clean install.
3. During the install choose the 2nd partition or drive to install to and continue normally. (NOTE: Windows 98 CAN NOT access a NTFS drive, if you format the drive to NTFS Windows 98 will not see it.)

When the installation completes you will be shown a boot menu every time you start the system asking if you want to go into Win98 or XP.

NOTE: Installing 2 Windows OS's on one partition will create problems. The two OS's will end up sharing folders (Like Program Files) and this will screw things up. (Example: Windows ME using Internet Explorer 5.5 and Windows XP using IE 6.0, IE 6.0 will replace IE 5.5 and when ME boots it will find 6.0 instead, which it will not like. Also, if you call in for Tech Support, Microsoft will not help you, Two OS's on one partition is not supported. Two OS's on seperate partitions/drives is supported.)

I have been running VMWARE for some time. Have sessions for W3.1, W95,W98, W2K Pro and Server, XP, Linux, Netware 5.1 NT 4 Workstation / Server. Works like a dream. You can even ghost sessions into, and out of VMWARE. All my sessions I have backed up by compressing them with WinZIP and burning them onto CD. Also running them from a USB or Firewire external Hard Disk, so it's very flexible, no configuration needed between PC's, just install Vmware.

Hello there. Thanks very much for all your help everyone. I'm sorry I couldn't reply earlier my computer was damaged (psu voltage had been changed, it blew up) but its up and running again.

I am using both operating systems, win 98 and win xp pro. It is was fairly easy. What I did was uninstall windows xp pro from the add/remove in the control panel. Then installed it again. During installation I was asked if I wanted the xp in another drive, I chose yes. It then partitioned the hard drive into two, c and e drives. So now c drive is operated by win 98 and the e drive by win xp. In the starup screen I am asked which I want to choose from either one.

Anyway thanks for all your help I do appreciate it.

Bye Now!
