In Windows XP, I have realized my USB Scanner (HP ScanJet 2200C) being listed as "HP ScanJet 2200C #2" in my Device Manager. I have uninstalled the device and reinstalled numerous times, but still have not been able to get rid of this "#2" at the end of the device name.

Does anybody know why WinXP does such a thing in the device manager? Is there anyway in renaming the device or getting rid of this "#2" at the end of the device name?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Josh.

yea that's kinda strange. The only thing I can think of is go into safemode (tap F8 when booting up and choose the SafeMode option, or tap F5 while starting up...) and check it in there. Sometimes extra drivers will show up in there that don't show up in normal mode (unused drivers show in safemode). Other that that its beyond me. Is it working OK?
