Ok so my 60 GB hard drive had apparently gone out while using windows xp. I had just started installing Command and Conquer: Generals, and a message popped up that some installer dll file could not be found, so it automatically restarted. during post it did not detect the 60GB hard drive. So I tried using the win xp cd (for some reason it neveer works as a boot disk, unless i install the installation files in windows), and it didnt work, so I used the 98 cd, which worked. ( to install a fresh copy of xp i have to format and install 98, then xp) So during the setup, it starts to format... this usually takes a while for the 60 GB, but for some reason it took about 2 seconds. So it said that there was an error that it could not install win 98. I tried again and again and every time it was a different error. So I ended up using the pre-existing installation of 98 for the hard drive in my server. This ended up working, so I installed xp. Now that I have it installed on the hard drive from the server, I tried putting the 60GB HD in the server and it was detected! So I put it back in the Main comp and it isn't detected! Also, I tried my 40GB hard drive and it wouldn't work! Is this because of windows or what? it worked fine before but since windows screwed up it wont work. I have tried setting different jumpers on the Hard rives, without success. I have tried BIOS, without success also. Please help me get my hard drive back.

GRRRRRRR... its gone again. I had it back, it saw it as 65 MB, not GB, i tried "manage" under the my computer right click menu, and it had seen it as about 1230 GB, not MB. It had a bucnh of overlapping partitions, creating ll of that imaginary space. I tried to make them into 1, but it said I needed to restart, so it did. When i restarted, i went into bios and bios read the hd, but now windows wont. still need help... thanks in advance

hello
reboot with 98se or m.e bootdisk in drive and format it from there.m.e has no problems seeing large disks 98 can screw up on the large ones some times.
