i have files on a certain 1.44 floppy that won't open on my winXP. I keep getting the error message, "disk in drive A is not formatted." If i click yes to format the disk, will i lose my files?? -thanks-

If you click yes you will lose your files. You can try accessing the disk on the original PC the files were created on.
Another solution may be to run "error-checking" on the floppy by opening up the drive's properties and switching to the tools tab. This may be risky, some data may be lost.

I get this all the time if they were made in W2000. All I do is keep removing the floppy and reinsert it. After a few times, low and behold, XP reads the damn thing.

But keep in mind probably some of your data is damaged even if it is just part of a file. So i reccommend using cd-rw or one of them small usb keychain drives.
