I have a 1.4 Ghz AMD athlon Processor, and Win. XP pro, I work on video editing on my comp., then (of course) the computer crashed and I re-installed XP Pro, but now everything goes sloooow, and the biggest problem is the editing program (which is BTW Adobe Premiere 6.0) that I can't play any video on it without the video skippng.
So what should I do to get it back to normal?

(BTW I tried formating the whole computer again, but the problem still remains!)

go to the device manager, [right click my computer on desktop/properties/hardware]

then go to ide controllers/primamry then properties. make sure that the drive is in dma mode. [auto detect] ultra dma mode 4.

that probably the problem.

hope it helps

Thanks mooseboy84 but, it says:
Device 0

Device type: "Auto Detection" (grayed out)
Transfer Mode: "DMA if availabale" with a choice for "PIO only".

Current transfer Mode: PIO mode !!!!!!!

(same in device 1)

Now what?

I'm having same problem and so are many. I believe this is the next bug that microsoft needs to work out. Either that or VIA needs to fix it. At first I thought I was the only one plagued with this, but now I keep finding more and more people with this error that CAN'T BE FIXED. Go ahead and try everything...its not gonna work.

Hey y'all . . .

Try this to fix the problem . . .

1) get a hold of the latest VIA 4in1 drivers from www.viaarena.com

2) install the update (accepting the default suggestions)

3) don't reboot yet - open up device manager and remove the HD controller from the list of installed devices.

4) now reboot - XP should detect the "new device" (being your HD), and install it using the most current loaded drivers (the ones you just installed)

5) follow Mooseboy's advice - if this doesn't work, then try using the X-Teq tqeak utility to enable UDMA/66

WARNING - this solution worked on an old box of mine (using a soltek MB) - needless to say, it may not work for everyone!! *wry smile*

Cheers,

A.
