Hi!
For some reason, my CPU useage is staying at 100%, and everything has subsequently sloooowed down. How do I track down what is causing this, as i have re-booted etc. to try to sort the problem? It has only started in the past 3 days and I do not recall adding any software. I clean out all the gash temporary files and cache regularly as well as defrag.
Hit 'Ctrl+Alt=Del' and then select the "Processes" tab. Start turning OFF everything that you see sucking the CPU.
You should be able to figure out what the anagram next to the CPU sucker, listed stands for, if you try.

Kevin, Try looking in task manager for the culprit as far as which is using the cpu most. Also, you may want to try running Spybot or AdAware to make sure spyware isnt' the problem.

You might want to try another firewall. I heard McAfee was a memory hog. Zone Alarm and Outpost (agnitum.com) both offer good, free firewalls. Also, make sure the XP built-in firewall is disabled. That might make a difference, too. Mary
