100% cpu usage with Print spooler

Help! I have an Athlon Xp machine running xp pro with 528 megs of ram and an all in one xerox workcenter printer. I downloaded the xp drivers for it and it runs fine. The problem I have is the print spooler uses 100% of my cpu all the time. Not just when I am printing something. It seems to be the case regardless of the printer I have installed. How do I get this to stop. I can stop it manually by disabling the process. My other xp pro machines don't have this problem. Any suggestions?

It didn't work. It seems to be a problem specific with the print spooler. When I am actively printing a job cpu usage drops to normal. As soon as the job is finished it pegs at 100% again. If I disbale the process for spooler in the services area it goes to normal but then I am unable to print. Not an option my wife would take kindly to. Anyone else wanna take a crack at it?

Right click My Computer, go to Properties--Advanced--Performance Settings--Advanced, and make sure "Programs" is checked under "Processor scheduling".

It is checked. Dies anyone else have any troubles with their print spooler using all the cpu's resources? When I disable or restart this component it goes to normal for a few minutes before the system cranks it back up again

IMHO it is just a bug with XP. I honestly dont beleive that it has anything to do with your printing because the CPU shouldnt have been at 100% in the first place. Ive seen ALOT of people having this exact problem and everyone seems to be doing something different. I suffer also from the problem but its only VERY intermittantly. It happens only every now and again and i dont have any USB devices or printers installed. I think certain things cause the bug to appear for example in your case its when you send things to the printer....for other people it may happen after they play a game...others it might be when they open a word document. Im just going to keep my ear to the ground and hope that someone namely Microsoft comes up with an answer and a solution to the problem :-)
Basically i think its an inherent memory leak issue MS should fix.

I just solved my mystery 100% CPU all the time which had brough a 1ghz CPU with 768MB RAM to its knees. I had a USB modem with fax receive on. The minute I took the fax down everything went back to normal, and the computer is very fast again.
