Hey, I've done a search here and it seems there are many conflicts that cause this problem.

I'm on XP Pro, AMD 750, 512 megs of ram and a GeForce 2.

First, when I would analyze with Executive Diskeeper or Norton Speedisk, during the analyzing period, it would start to analyze then hang up after like 15 seconds and stay at 100% cpu usage. After like 2 minutes, the analyzing would then continue for about another 15 seconds and then hang up again for another 2 or so minutes. Finally it would finish.

After 2 weeks of searching and coming up with nothing, I decided to do a disk cleanup for the hell of it and cleared almost 4 gigs of system restores. Whatta ya know, it fixed it.

Now the other problem is with IE and Windows Explorer. If I bring up Windows Explorer and clink on a folder, it will refresh and everything is ok. However, if one IE is open and Window Explorer refreshes, my cpu usage will jump to 100% and stay there for about 1-2 minutes. I monitor my cpu usage through Sysmetrix and watched in task manager as IE is hogging everything up. While it's locked there, if I close IE, it will stop.

No viruse or spyware; searched with NAV, Trojan Remover, BPS Spyware Remover, Adaware and Spybot. Can't think of anything that causes this and uninstalled lot of things who no result. Would really hate to format again.

Have tried lots of things suggested here and all over the place. Am open to any suggestions.

Open the Task manager when your system is "idle", make a note of all running processes and how much strain they are putting on your CPU, then minimize it. Then force Windows Explorer to refresh as you mentioned in your post, quickly switch back to task manager, scroll through the processes and find the one thats munching away at your resources and kill it. Once you know what it is called, you can take further steps to removing it from your system.

Download either "Tweak-Xp" or "WinTasks", both will give you a fool's breakdown of running processes, making it easy to identify and terminate the CPU hogger in question.

Good luck!

I have Tweak XP and as I said above, when Windows Explorer refreshes, IE is hogging everything up. I monitored it through task manager as previously stated.
