I am gettin 100% cpu usage all the time on this machine. Logins and shutdown are extremely slow and nuthing seems to be taking up an processing power except svchost which ranges anywhere from 0-98 at times its jumpy. i have ran ad aware, spy bot and antivirus software and cleaned up alot but there still seems to be this one problem. andy ideas would be of great assistance.

Are you sure it is svchost and not system idle? In XP Pro, you can use the "Tasklist /SVC" command from the cmd, to see which executable or whatever the rogue svchost is linked to. Does anyone know how to do this in XP home?

You should disable the useless services that you don't need. I had the same problem, and I tried doing everything, but nothing worked until i disabled a couple of services. Check out www.blackviper.com THE BEST SITE FOR XP SERVICES PERIOD!

check the name of the offending file closely.like me and countless others for some reason when we post an issue and quote the file we get the name wrong. are u sure it is SVCHOST that is zapping cpu power. if it is SVCHOST, i cant help. if however it is the very clever scvhost.exe u have a nasty virus. i too did what most did, got the name twisted and got no where. the clever thing even shut down anti virus updates mid way through a download. in the end i found a german program that seemed to erradicate it.,,,w32gaobot-f-removal.let us know how u get on

I took a screenshot of the processes running on the system im having trouble with. it shows the taks manager so u can see the CPU usage of each process. If anyone thinks this would help them in helping me, please let me know. Thanks
