My task manager shows 100% computer usage whenever I run a program. Sometimes it is 90% for that program, other times no program is running and the 100% usage is spread among several areas. This causes my computer to stutter and slow WAY down for about 30 sec's. I can't even connect to the internet.

I did a factory restore and no cure. I don't have a xp installation disk, just a recovery disk (Compaq).

My second problem is that I formatted my Fat32 disk and now my recovery disk stops just short of the menu and gives an error message to contact Compaq.

I ran Norton anti virus and nothing showed up.

At this point I would be happy re installing xp if I knew how.

Any help would be appreciated.

Doing a factory restore should put your PC back to its original working condition. Have you installed ANY software since the restoration?

The factory restore that I did multiple times did not fix it. Now I can't even get to the menu that gives the option to factory restore. The only software that I reloaded was Norton anti virus.

Make sure your have the latest updated virus definitions for Norton's AV and run a full scan. Also download and install "Spybot Search & Destroy" to see if your PC contains any malware that could be causing the problem.

Appears to be an uneeded service running. Go blackviper.com. He has a list of services that can be disabled.

Thanks All, but Blackviper's services tweaks did not help, I do have the current Norton anti virus updates, and I run Adaware for spyware. Whatever program I am trying to run spikes at about 90% on task manager, so closing services does not help.

What about my partitoned disk format, not being able to factory restore, and re installing xp?

Thanks
